Richard de Jong (39), a Dutch citizen, has more than 14 years of professional sales experience in the area of New Information and Communications Technologies (NICT).  His expertise and his multicultural knowledge will contribute to strengthen the development of SGT in Northern European territories (Belgium, The Netherlands and Nordic countries).

Greg Kontusz, a German citizen, graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey and has an MBA from Chubb Institute. The combined workflow integrates eleven channels run by four independent television broadcasters. This ambitious project was carried out by SGT in cooperation with its systems integration partner Qualitron, who was in charge of integration and on-site deployment. Prof-Media today benefits from an improved return-on-investment, higher efficiencies and increased broadcast reliability.

Eric Hennetier has been appointed Chief Technology Officer of SGT, a leading global software vendor in the broadcast and media industry.  Before joining SGT, Mr. Hennetier was Deputy IT Director of the French TV network M6.  In his new role, he is responsible for the Professional services organization and R&D teams as well as for the technical support of SGT.  He follows Eric Michaud who will take over the role of executive evangelist of the company.

Eric Hennetier (45), a graduate from the Normandy Center for IT Research CENORI (Centre Normand de Recherche en Informatique) in Le Havre, started his career in 1987 as project manager, and then AV project director at IMPULSION, a French IT consulting firm.  In 1996, he joined the TV network M6 METROPOLE TELEVISION as the director for IT studies and development.  Since 2004, Eric Hennetier took also over the responsibility as the Deputy IT Director of the Group.

SGT, a leading global software vendor in the broadcast and media industry, in cooperation with BFE, announced that the Swiss TV network TSR (Télévision Suisse Romande) has chosen the VEDA™ platform for its new playout automation system. The project called “CDD2010” will be set up by BFE with the objective to overhaul TSR´s broadcast center (Centre De Diffusion) in Geneva. The playout automation system will be installed for the two Premium channels, TSR1 and TSR2, and as of 2011 for thematic IP channels. The final system is expected to be on air during the second half of 2010.

The requirements for the new playout system were as follows:
•    Completely digitized system, enabling an interaction with the existing media management system GICO
•    Ensure a strong interaction with the traffic system STRADA developed in-house by TSR
•    Support HD playout formats and multi-channel sound
•    Enable content sharing and availability
•    Ensure high-security playout
•    Increase flexibility and reactivity of the system

A reliable, secure and user-friendly solution
In order to ensure maximum systems availability, SGT and BFE will build a playout solution based on an active/active security cluster. The two VEDA™ Automation servers broadcast the same playlist and are synchronized.  The VEDA™ Automation client complements the flexible and powerful VEDA™ platform to manage workflows and impresses with its ergonomics and its overall presentation – a key point for TSR in the final choice of the VEDA™ solution.  The application can be organized to meet specific client needs and allows the workspace to be tailored through a graphical tool.

Perfect integration in TSR´s existing IT-broadcast environment
VEDA™ will integrate seamlessly into the IT broadcast environment at TSR, interfacing with all existing and to-be-deployed systems, and thus guaranteeing high flexibility and continuous operation.  Through BXF services for example, VEDA™ will interface with the STRADA traffic system that programs the Premium channels.  VEDA™ will also communicate with the existing media management system GICO that takes over the digitalization and archiving.

Furthermore, TSR puts a special emphasis on high-quality audio and dynamic branding: in an environment that – among other equipment – will be composed of the Nexio playout server from Harris, the Imagestore IS750 Master Control Switcher from Miranda, the Nexus audio router from Stagetec and the C8000 series audio processing components from Jünger, VEDA™ Automation allows working audio live from the source to respond to TSR´s requirements in terms of high-quality sound in 5.1 Discrete, Dolby E and PCM stereo. In addition, dynamic branding equipment is needed.  In the case of the TSR implementation, SGT´s solution will integrate with Iconstation from Harris to ensure an excellent dynamic branding.

New VEDA™ Features
SGT will show a series of new features of its VEDA™ software suite for workflow automation and video content management.  Hence, the VEDA™ suite will be extended by the new component “File Ingest” that will take over the workflows for file acquisition, manually or automatically. Operators can now monitor all ingest, globally or locally. Different presentation filters help to control the accurate management of incoming files, deal with errors, follow-up on external requests (semi-automatically) and validate manual imports.
VEDA™´s middleware is also enriched by a series of Locator Engine components that supervise the exchange zones, analyze the technical features of the files, retrieve editorial information (external XML or embedded MXF, MP4) and reference these programs in the database.  If necessary, they ensure their transfer up until they are taken care of by the content management tool, VEDA™ Loader.

The ergonomics use the same concepts and graphical interface applied to the Automation client (playout).

New VEDA™ Packs
At NAB 2010, SGT will show, for the first time, the two versions of its brand-new VEDA™ Packs:  VEDA™ Pack Transmission and VEDA™ Pack Search & Retrieve.  With the easy-to-use, preconfigured and packaged solutions, SGT addresses local and thematic TV channels. News Room Organizer (NRO)
With “News Room Organizer” (NRO), SGT has launched a new application intended for editorial teams in broadcasting companies.  Thanks to the functional richness, NRO allows the end-to-end production of news journals until playout.  It covers the production process of TV shows or programs, and manages the allocation of staff (journalists, technicians…) and other resources (cutting rooms, cameras, mobile broadcast units…).  The Rundown module allows producing news while tracking the whole technical environment (automation, branding, prompter...).  NRO is MOS 2.8.3 compatible, and therefore, fully interfaces with the other modules of the VEDA™ suite.  It is built around a centralized infrastructure (on Windows and Mac) and is directly accessible from every desk of the editorial staff.  With NRO, it is easy to define the role of each staff member and how to best integrate them in the organization.

RTBF´s objective was to overhaul its media distribution system, to build a new, multi-playout control room solution digitalizing all media, and permitting strong interaction with the new postproduction control room. The requirements for the new system were as follows:
•    Guarantee optimized media management and efficient content delivery
•    Ensure high-security playout, and consequently maximum systems availability
•    Increase the flexibility and the reactivity of the system

“Our control room solution no longer responded to our needs in terms of scalability, reactivity and reliability,” said Patrick Moulin, project manager, multi-diffusion at RTBF. “Therefore, we started to look for a system offering the performance, the flexibility and the creativity to grow our system without running any risks in terms of systems availability or security”.

The new multi-broadcasting system at RTBF went on-air in September 2009. With VEDA™, RTBF now has a powerful, reliable and scalable solution that runs complex systems using a lot of equipment and protocols.
The system integrates various VEDA™ components offering functionalities from Media Management, to prepare the playout, to Automation for media transmission and interfacing with external systems.

Flexibility and reactivity
As VEDA™ integrates the distribution and media asset management systems in one unique database, information exchange between the distribution and previous processes are facilitated, such as the receipt of files or synchronized and last-minute ingests.

Securing the playout
For broadcasters, such as RTBF, it is vital to ensure the continuity of playout. Consequently, the security of the system was one of the key requirements. RTBF, Video Promotion and SGT built a system´s architecture based on an active/active security cluster for 16 channels (8x2). Each channel should have a channel backup (a main channel and a synchronized back-up channel) to ensure highest availability of the system.

Scalability and adaptability
