Champs sur Marne, France, 30 March 2009 – SGT, a leading global software vendor in the broadcast and media industry, will be present at this year’s NAB show in Las Vegas (French Pavilion, Booth # N1737G, in the North Hall) and will show a series of new features of its VEDA™ software suite for workflow automation and video content management. The software solution integrates SGT’s unique know-how and 20 years of experience in video content management for traditional broadcasters with the need for multi-delivery models.

The main features of the VEDA™ suite that will be shown at NAB are:

VEDA™ Search & Retrieve VEDA™ Search & Retrieve is an intelligent semantic search engine offering unrivalled research power. While Search allows finding material based on similar expressions or even misspelled key words, Research allows discovering the intended material and story paths. Search & Retrieve supports more than 15 languages and proposes synonyms, , related subjects, people, or places – thus, enough elements to enlarge or deepen the research.

Final Cut Studio plug-in This plug-in allows immediate asset access from post-production. Craft editors can search the VEDA™ media database and initiate a transfer of material to the post-production storage, where VEDA™ will take care of rewrapping or transcoding automatically. With a simple click, transferred materials can be added to a running Final Cut Studio project. Additionally, VEDA™ allows program makers to view and pre-edit selected material in low res, and then push the resulting EDL to craft edit stations, such as Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Studio.

VEDA™ Automation client The new VEDA™ Automation client is an easy to use, powerful and intuitive playout application. SGT has put a particular attention on its ergonomics and the overall presentation.

This application is composed of 10 modules that can be organised to meet the user’s needs and allow tailoring the workspace through a graphical tool (a configuration with a double screen is also possible). In addition to the classical features for playlist management, VEDA™ Automation offers:

An access to the entire media database

Preview functions in low and high res

Monitoring tools per timeline

Process supervision tools

All these features are based on SGT’s technology platform that is known for highest reliability, upgradeability and performance. It offers new BXF interfaces and Web Services to ensure a greater integration with third-party tools installed at the client’s site.

“We are excited to present these new features to the international broadcast community at this year’s NAB show,” said François Chiche, Vice President Sales and Marketing of SGT. “Program makers and broadcasters will benefit from important advantages to significantly reduce their infrastructure costs.”

Russian Media Group Prof-Media Uses SGT’s VEDA Software Suite to Manage Its New Tapeless Workflow

The combined workflow managing eleven channels run by four independent broadcasters, eliminates redundancies, helps save on equipment, improves ROI and increases broadcast reliability.

Champs sur Marne, France. March 23, 2009 - SGT, a technology leader in the broadcast and media industry, today announced that Prof-Media, one of the top players in the Russian media industry, successfully uses SGT’s VEDA™ software suite components for an entirely IP-based tapeless workflow solution. The combined workflow integrates eleven channels run by four independent television broadcasters. This ambitious project was carried out by SGT in cooperation with its systems integration partner Qualitron, who was in charge of integration and on-site deployment. Prof-Media today benefits from an improved return-on-investment, higher efficiencies and increased broadcast reliability.

“We are extremely pleased with what we have achieved using SGT’s VEDA™ suite to master our tapeless workflow,” said Alexander Grechishnikov, Technical Director of Prof-Media. “Combining the workflow for eleven channels from four broadcasters, and this for multiple time zones is an ambitious project. A merged workflow of this size simply would not have been possible with a traditional tape-based operation.”

Swiss TV network TSR chooses VEDA™ for its new playout automation system

Champs sur Marne, France, February 1, 2010

SGT, a leading global software vendor in the broadcast and media industry, in cooperation with BFE, announced that the Swiss TV network TSR (Télévision Suisse Romande) has chosen the VEDA™ platform for its new playout automation system. The project called “CDD2010” will be set up by BFE with the objective to overhaul TSR´s broadcast center (Centre De Diffusion) in Geneva. The playout automation system will be installed for the two Premium channels, TSR1 and TSR2, and as of 2011 for thematic IP channels. The final system is expected to be on air during the second half of 2010.

The requirements for the new playout system were as follows:
• Completely digitized system, enabling an interaction with the existing media management system GICO
• Ensure a strong interaction with the traffic system STRADA developed in-house by TSR
• Support HD playout formats and multi-channel sound
• Enable content sharing and availability
• Ensure high-security playout
• Increase flexibility and reactivity of the system

“The modernization of our broadcast center represents a strategic challenge that requires powerful and robust tools to accompany TSR in its future development,” said Blaise Guignard, Project manager at TSR. “After an in-depth market study, we have selected the VEDA™ solution from SGT, and BFE as our systems integration partner. The innovative features, the quality of the graphical interface, but also the adaptability of the system made the difference compared to other vendors.”

“TSR is a highly strategic project for SGT. It will allow us to demonstrate the advanced features of our VEDA™ offering. In addition, it will help us to accelerate our international growth and to develop new partnerships,” said François Chiche, Vice President Sales and Marketing at SGT. “The combination of our powerful VEDA™ suite and the professionalism of our integration partner BFE are key ingredients for the success of the solution.”

A reliable, secure and user-friendly solution
In order to ensure maximum systems availability, SGT and BFE will build a playout solution based on an active/active security cluster. The two VEDA™ Automation servers broadcast the same playlist and are synchronized. The VEDA™ Automation client complements the flexible and powerful VEDA™ platform to manage workflows and impresses with its ergonomics and its overall presentation – a key point for TSR in the final choice of the VEDA™ solution. The application can be organized to meet specific client needs and allows the workspace to be tailored through a graphical tool.

Perfect integration in TSR´s existing IT-broadcast environment
VEDA™ will integrate seamlessly into the IT broadcast environment at TSR, interfacing with all existing and to-be-deployed systems, and thus guaranteeing high flexibility and continuous operation. Through BXF services for example, VEDA™ will interface with the STRADA traffic system that programs the Premium channels. VEDA™ will also communicate with the existing media management system GICO that takes over the digitalization and archiving.

Furthermore, TSR puts a special emphasis on high-quality audio and dynamic branding: in an environment that – among other equipment – will be composed of the Nexio playout server from Harris, the Imagestore IS750 Master Control Switcher from Miranda, the Nexus audio router from Stagetec and the C8000 series audio processing components from Jünger, VEDA™ Automation allows working audio live from the source to respond to TSR´s requirements in terms of high-quality sound in 5.1 Discrete, Dolby E and PCM stereo. In addition, dynamic branding equipment is needed. In the case of the TSR implementation, SGT´s solution will integrate with Iconstation from Harris to ensure an excellent dynamic branding.

Champs sur Marne, France, and Brussels, Belgium, February 16, 2010 - SGT, a leading global software vendor in the broadcast and media industry, and Video Promotion, SGT´s privileged systems integration partner for Belgium and the Netherlands, are pleased to announce that the Belgian national broadcaster RTBF (Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française) uses SGT´s VEDA™ solution for its new multi-broadcasting control room system.

RTBF´s objective was to overhaul its media distribution system, to build a new, multi-playout control room solution digitalizing all media, and permitting strong interaction with the new postproduction control room. The requirements for the new system were as follows:
• Guarantee optimized media management and efficient content delivery
• Ensure high-security playout, and consequently maximum systems availability
• Increase the flexibility and the reactivity of the system

“Our control room solution no longer responded to our needs in terms of scalability, reactivity and reliability,” said Patrick Moulin, project manager, multi-diffusion at RTBF. “Therefore, we started to look for a system offering the performance, the flexibility and the creativity to grow our system without running any risks in terms of systems availability or security”.

The new multi-broadcasting system at RTBF went on-air in September 2009. With VEDA™, RTBF now has a powerful, reliable and scalable solution that runs complex systems using a lot of equipment and protocols.
The system integrates various VEDA™ components offering functionalities from Media Management, to prepare the playout, to Automation for media transmission and interfacing with external systems.

“Our big strengths in this project derive from our broad experience in the automation of TV channels facing big constraints in terms of security and scalability, and from our capacity to personalize and integrate solutions in the specific context and environment of the client”, said François Chiche, Vice President Sales and Marketing at SGT. “The RTBF project was a highly ambitious one requiring powerful tools, new technologies and an in-depth IT-broadcasting expertise. We successfully faced this challenge thanks to a great team work between client, software vendor and systems integrator.”

Flexibility and reactivity
As VEDA™ integrates the distribution and media asset management systems in one unique database, information exchange between the distribution and previous processes are facilitated, such as the receipt of files or synchronized and last-minute ingests.

Securing the playout
For broadcasters, such as RTBF, it is vital to ensure the continuity of playout. Consequently, the security of the system was one of the key requirements. RTBF, Video Promotion and SGT built a system´s architecture based on an active/active security cluster for 16 channels (8x2). Each channel should have a channel backup (a main channel and a synchronized back-up channel) to ensure highest availability of the system.

Scalability and adaptability
Other requirements were scalability and adaptability allowing new channels or further functionalities to be added at any time. “Thanks to our expertise and specific know-how in dealing with highly complex and challenging projects, we successfully helped RTBF to benefit from a most modern, reliable and scalable playout solution“, said Michel Loiseau, Manager at Video Promotion. “As their privileged systems integrator and equipment provider we demonstrated our ability to adapt to various situations and respond to specific customer requirements in a very customized and personalized way.”
